REPSOL – MONTESA HRC
World Trial Championship
12th round. Spanish Grand Prix.

Toni Bou wins the last event and is proclaimed World Champion for
the second year running.
Takahisa Fujinami is third in the final classification and Montesa, holding eleven
world titles, raises its record number of world championship victories to 126.
Castellolí (Barcelona), 21.09.2008. - Toni Bou (Montesa-HRC Cota 4RT) has revalidated
his World Trial Champion title after winning the event ending the 34th edition of the
championship this Sunday in the Parcmotor Castellolí. The Montesa rider made a solid
defence of his title, winning in seven of the twelve scoring events and finishing second in
the other five. Born on October 17, 1986 and resident in Piera (Barcelona), Toni Bou has
been in the Repsol-Montesa HRC team since last year, in which like this year, he won both
the outdoor and indoor trial titles.
Even though it would have been enough for Toni Bou to have finished ninth to revalidate
the title, he was decided to celebrate it with a new victory. And that was what he did,
leaving the competition practically decided in the first lap of the event, which he finished
with just three points, twelve less than Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa-HRC Cota 4RT), who
was second at the end of this first lap and fourth in the final world championship
classification.
With Toni Bou’s victory, Montesa has raised its record of winning positions in world
championship events to 126, obtaining its eleventh manufacturer’s title (the last three being
consecutive and with four-stroke engines) decided in the second event before last. This has
been a weekend to celebrate in the Repsol-Montesa HRC team, as Laia Sanz also won her
eight women’s world championship title in this same place.
Toni Bou: “To defend a title always means more pressure that when you win it for the first
time. It’s been a magnificent championship, with seven victories and five second places,
perseverance which, together with excellent team work, has been fundamental to achieve
this success. Last year I found out I was champion on the phone and after unexpected
circumstances. This time’s been different, struggling to the end and managing to celebrate
it with this victory at home. A perfect scenario and a competition I began fully concentrated
and as the competition progressed, I managed to really enjoy it”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “Firstly I’d like to congratulate Toni, he’s had a magnificent season and
deserves the title. I’m disappointed that I couldn’t maintain my position in the first lap until
the end and accompany him on the podium on such a memorable day for him and the
whole team”.
