Marc Freixa at just two points from repeating runner-up status. Fifth place goes to Laia Sanz in the Senior B standing.

Alcañiz (Teruel, Spain), 31.10.2004.  Marc Freixa (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) has finished second in the closing round of the Spanish Trial Championship, contested today, Sunday. The Repsol-Montesa HRC rider needed just two points to revalidate the runner-up position he attained last season, an objective that seemed within his grasp after finishing the first lap as leader. Something new in this trial, a test for its possible application in the future, was that the usual time limit of five and a half hours to complete the course was reduced by one hour.

Laia Sanz, again on the 4-stroke  Montesa-HRC Cota 4RT, came seventh in Senior B, a result which has confirmed her fifth position in the final standing of this category, whose title was taken by Xavier León (Montesa)

Marc Freixa “I needed a result like this to break the run of bad luck I had in the last trials. I've fought hard to revalidate my runner-up status and it slipped through my fingers. In fact, it was set to be mine already in the first lap but the five marks for exceeding the time limit just after starting the second lap took me right out of the run for a victory that was essential to be runner-up again. In terms of the time reduction, this implies making the trial more agile and also racing more between the sections, which can be quite complicated when they're at a distance from each other. This wasn't the case today, but when it does happen there may be problems and penalties”.

Laia Sanz: “The outcome wasn't very good, but in comparison with the result of the last trial I do think it's positive and I'm getting to know the new motorbike better. The time reduction went against me and I committed errors, and this format is also more physically tiring. Sometimes it felt more like an enduro race than a trial. As for the fifth position in the championship, this is pretty good and it's in line with the goals I'd set myself”.
