Motegi (Japan),
23.05.2004. Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa-HRC RTL 250) and Dougie
Lampkin (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) share leadership of the World
Trial Championship (with advantage going to the Japanese rider due
to his greater number of victories) after taking the first two
positions on the second day of the Japanese Trial, the third
calendar meeting. Marc Freixa (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) rounded off
the Repsol-Montesa HRC team's success in achieving the third
place, at a single point from his team-mates, in a trial with
final scores remaining uncertain until the very last moment.
Tomoyuki Ogawa repeated yesterday's result with the debut of the
new 4-stroke Honda RTL 250FR while Laia Sanz (Montesa-HRC Cota
315R) came very close to what would have been her first podium in
the World Junior Cup, a podium she was deprived of after being
imposed two maximum penalties by the judges of the second section.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I'm very happy indeed, naturally. I've
been dreaming of this for a long time. I was looking to win the
two-day trial in my country and at last I've made it. And as my
rivals put a lot of pressure on me, this double triumph is even
more precious. I want to be world champion and this is the track
I'm going to keep to. I am very highly motivated”.
Dougie Lampkin: “I would have liked to win, as I said yesterday,
but an unjust decision from a control point in the first lap put
an end to that. I'm happy about the team's overall result but I
don't feel good about what happened in the first lap and the five
marks I was dealt out. I retaliated in the second lap and
demonstrated that I'm still in form”.
Marc Freixa: “I was very concentrated and my riding was good. I
lost the triumph after losing control of the bike a bit when I
left a section and so I got three marks. I'd gone right through
that section in the first lap with zero marks. So even though I'm
pleased and I think this third position is pretty good, I know it
could have been better”.
Laia Sanz: “I'm very cross because in each stage through the
second section I was penalised five marks. And each time it was
quite unjust. Those ten marks took me out of the run for the
podium of the Junior Cup, which, apart from my personal
satisfaction, would have reinforced the team's overall result ”.
The fourth round of the World Trial Championship will be contested
in Duluth (United States), on the 5th and 6th of June.
