Manzano has taken part
previously in senior championships (in 2001 he finished 13th both
in the World and in the Spanish chapionships), but for him the
beginning of this season has a special meaning. On the one hand,
it's the first time that senior championships constitute his only
objective. On the other, he begins with a new mark, a new team,
and renewed illusions.
So he went to the first appointment of the season in Villalonga
after a thorough preparation throughout the winter. And really he's
had a spectacular beginning: after the six first sections, Manzi
was in 3rd place, only surpassed by Fujinami and Raga.
But it was then that he chained some errors in four sections (the
7, 8, 9 and 12), what took him to the 9th place at the end of the
first lap, the same place that he occupied in the final standings.
The podium was for Raga (13), Cabestany (20) and Freixa (20),
whereas the current champion, Lampkin, remained in 4th place,
with 24 points.
After the round, Manzi regretted the errors that had prevented him
to complete his excellent beginning, but he was in high spirits: "I've
had good vibrations, this is just the beginning." He'll have
occasion to prove it within a month, on March 24 in Baiona (Pontevedra).
